An account of the poet Caedmon isolated and silenced for thirty years by an immense personal grief. A person appears to him in a dream, makes him talk and tells him to sing. The miracle happens and Caedmon sings the "Hymn Of Creation". Fry's play was produced at Chelmsford Cathedral and broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1986.
